Developers Of Speed Reporting App Forced Into Anonymity Following Abuse
A new app that recently launched 'Speedcam Anywhere' uses AI to estimate the speed of passing cars which has cause an ethical debate around surveillance of citizens and whether it has a place in society.

The developers of the app have been forced into anonymity since the launch of the app, due angry and abusive messages from drivers as drivers feel uncomfortable with with the extra surveillance the app produces as the app was created to encourage local residents to document traffic crimes to keep their communities safe.

The app was originally created to encourage police and local authorities to tackle speeders and protect the road. The app was created in hopes of becoming a useful tool to prevent dangerous driving and from serious incidents occurring as a way to make the roads safer for everyone.

How the app works is by the user of the app can record a vehicle as it drives past, the apps AI uses the vehicles number plate to search the DVLA's public database to find the make and model as well as determine the speed of which the car was driving. After this, the user can save the video and create a report to share to the relevant authorities.

Following its launch back in march it has since received poor ratings from users scoring a 1.3 stars on the Google Play Store and has yet to be appear on the Apple App Store. The future for the app, doesn't look bright.
