drivers warned of four ne low emission zones launching soon
Drivers of petrol and diesel cars may face new costs in the coming future as four new Low Emission Zones (LEZs) are set to launch this year.

Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, and Glasgow will launch their LEZs followed by a grace period to allow motorists to comply to the rules

Based on emissions standards, petrol cars registered from 2006 and diesel cars registered from September 2015 will be allowed into the zone whilst all other non-compliant vehicles will face penalty charges.

The LEZs are set to be enforced from mid-2023 in Glasgow, and mid-2024 in Aberdeen, Dundee, and Edinburgh.

In Glasgow the LEZ is set to be introduced on May 31 2022 with a one year grace period, meaning the LEZ would start on June 1 2023. The scheme will operate 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

In the Scottish capital of Edinburgh is subject to final approval by the council and Scottish ministers this spring 2022 with the aim of introducing the LEZ in mid-2022. Following the launch afterwards would be a two-year grace period that will be put into place before any penalty charges are issued. Enforcement would commence form June 2024.

In Aberdeen it is anticipated that the LEZ would also be introduced in mid-2022, with a two year grace period being proposed for all vehicle types with fines being introduced in mid-2024.

And finally in Dundee could see its LEZ introduced in mid-2022, with the city also have a 2 year grace period. Access will be restricted for the most polluting vehicles with those that do not meet the emission standards not being allowed to enter the zone and if they do the owner of the vehicle will have to pay a fine.
